Through an artist friend, I was contact by lovely Susan who happens to be one of my neighbors, the kind of neighbor that you know of, but don’t really know…just to waive as we walk our dogs by her street. She contacted to say that she was expanding her Holistic Healthcare business into a larger space…one with walls…white walls and she needed artwork.

Since my company has a piece called Lollipop Art Productions, where since 2001 I’ve been managing artwork in local businesses in Southern Maine, mingling together both business and the arts. I find “great fits” and the artists have places to show without having to be represented by a gallery.

So here I go, three spaces, 12 art shows to manage in one year, it’s exciting!

Wet Paint! Studios will be on the East End Holiday Stroll

Come join me at The Holiday Shop at Fraser Art Studios during the East End Holiday Stroll on Saturday December 10, 2011 from 11am – 4pm. Wet Paint! Studios will join Fraser Art Studio artist Elizabeth Fraser, Rich Curole of Crazy Dick’s Cajun Foods, and other artists for a uniquely creative experience.

Some of my favorite picks for this show are Elizabeth’s small works that feature scenes from Munjoy Hill, Lori Rae’s 5 Pack Note Cards for $6.00 and Rich’s Organic “Smokey Cajun Seasoning” & “Hot Cajun Seasoning” all of which fit into the small & thoughtful gift category!

Lollipop Art Productions has been managing the art space at Biddeford Savings Bank located in Scarborough, Maine since the branch opened in 2006. Artists have show/sold work at this location the past five years. If you are interested in showing your art, the rotations are quarterly. Looking for an Artist to show in Spring, Summer and Fall of 2012. I install the work and commission rate is 30%. The Space – A newer interior, it has 3 good sized offices which will have large fishbowl style windows so you can see the art from the branch – it also has room for plenty of work in the general waiting area and main portion of this branch – through glass doors that do remain shut but accessible there is a hallway where more art is requested, as well as a good sized conference room.

Entrepreneurial Spirit … Leap of Faith … and No Cable TV

I’m not sure if us entrepreneurial types just attract each other, however it does seem that I am blessed to be surrounded by many Smart, Innovative, and Entrepreneurial people. One of those is my husband, Rich Curole, yes the very same Rich Curole who was born & bred in Cajun Country. Rich and I have been together since 2004, and since that time, I have had my art business Lollipop Art Productions & Wet! Paint Studios. Rich has always been a creative force in his job in sales, our home, and has positively impacted my business with his own creative ideas. It only seemed natural that when Rich ended his relationship with his day job that the next logical step would be to own his own business. As you will read below, the journey into the Creation of Crazy Dick’s Cajun foods began years before we actually established the business officially in 2011. How does it all fit in?

It’s a lot of hard work right now, and we don’t have cable tv and well we have two very energetic toddler-like wiener dogs who keep us on our feet. A leap of faith and having passion for those things that I love – amazing food, art, my dogs, family, travel, my career, and well all my friends. Thanks for your support.

How did it all begin?

How did a Cajun food company take root in a state so far away from Bayou Country? Did an intellectually challenged Cajun really trade hot nights and scorching hot days for cold days and intolerably colder nights? How is it that a man’s Cajun essence can survive 20 years of Yankee influence? Why did your grandmother insist your parents leave the house wearing clean underwear?

If the proposition of a “real” Cajun food company in Maine seems unfathomable, then fathom no more! Crazy Dick’s Cajun Foods was founded by Rich Curole, a Louisiana native (founder has actual Louisiana birth certificate) who happens to have spent the last twenty years living and working in New England.

For the challenge of “making it” far from home Rich moved to New England in 1991. Shortly after his arrival, it was painfully obvious that finding Cajun food to rival his mother’s was not possible. It was also obvious he would have to learn to cook! Soon enough he had family recipes and a head full of steam, but still lacked a required component: Genuine Cajun Seasoning.

From this deep, intrinsic need Crazy Dick’s Hot Cajun Seasoning was born. Rich experimented with formula after formula to arrive at the perfect balance of heat and flavor. Never to be mistaken for a man of anything but Cajun tastes, he paid particular attention to the aroma, texture and slow, extended burn only Crazy Dick’s delivers. He made sure nothing, other than actual spices, was included in his formula: NO MSG!, NO Preservatives!, and NO Anti-Caking Agents!. To avoid the hard, initial bite experienced with other mixed seasonings, salt was never considered as an ingredient, instantly freeing everyone to use Crazy Dick’s without regard to dietary concerns. And to distance his creation even further from all others, Rich used only certified organic ingredients to maximize the effectiveness of every adjective ever used to describe a Cajun Seasoning!

Some years later Lori Rae Curole, artist and entrepreneur, entered Rich’s life. After taking her first bite of a real Cajun Jambalaya, made with Crazy Dick’s Hot Cajun Seasoning, she demanded it be bottled and shared with the masses. And it wasn’t just the “cheap date” wine talking! Lori had been to New Orleans and the most southern areas of Louisiana. She had sampled the local fare. She had also traveled extensively around the US and abroad, eating great food along the way. In a word, she wasn’t one to fool around when it came to food recommendations.

So the first granules were bottled and gifted to friends and family in 2005, 14 years after Crazy Dick’s was conceived and born into a tasteless world. Those first bottles of Crazy Dick’s Hot Cajun Seasoning, despite crude labeling and moderate expectations, started a chain reaction that left their recipients screaming for more. Its true value had been discovered. It was obvious, someday Crazy Dick’s would be legitimized and brought to market.

Enter the Great Recession. Looking for opportunities to move beyond his previous profession, to catch the wave as it lifted the greater economy out of the dumper, and to fulfill his friends’ and relatives’ dreams of finding Crazy Dick’s on their grocers’ shelves, Rich started Crazy Dick’s Cajun Foods in June of 2011.

At present, Crazy Dick’s is working hard to bring you the most authentic and healthiest Cajun food available. Over time it is expected that Crazy Dick’s portfolio of Cajun accouterments, along with its fan base, will grow. Time or No Time

Is it seriously mid-July, it’s really crazy to me that I have blinked and more than a 1/2 year has gone by. The summer is 1/2 done and I’m wondering why when you are young time seems to drag and when you are an adult, you can’t figure out where it all goes.

I’m a self proclaimed multi-tasker, however, you know the saying “Jack of all trades, Master of none” THAT I don’t want to be. I am juggling many balls right now, but prioritizing as needed.

Wet Paint! Studios has taking a small holiday from the studio following the passing of my art mentor, one of the most amazing men I will ever know….my father. His encouragement was always so amazing…I know I just need to kick start my artistic self and get back in there….very soon. I have some Pet Portrait’s coming due for the last quarter of the year which will get my juices flowing. I also have signed up for an October Art Show….something that normally encourages more than less studio time.

So what have you been doing????? Well, Rich and I are starting a business, Crazy Dick’s Cajun Foods and we are ready to launch very soon with our first product, Organic Crazy Dick’s Hot Cajun Seasoning. It’s been great walking through the creative process for the label, website, blog and facebook page with him. All coming soon!

That and, well working….at my day job, which I love.

Lastly, I have been continuing the production of two art spaces and working with some amazing artists, who always inspire me.

Keep an eye out for new work, you can take a break from painting, however, it never leaves you….creating needs to be nurtured!

CFF Cat Show & Christmas Craft Show – October 15 & 16, 2011

About every two or so years it seems since 2007 I show my artwork at a Cat Show. I had great success at the Cumberland County Civic Center in 2006 a road trip took my husband, dog Stella and I to the New England Pet Show in Hartford Ct in 2007 and in 2009 I participated in the CFF Cat show in Lewiston, Maine. So when I was invited to follow organizer Terry Collins once again, I decided to except the invitation to the Cat Fanciers Federation and Christmas Craft Fair (held in October.) It is located in Springvale, Maine at The Nasson Community Center which resides at 457 Main Street. The show will run from 9am-4pm Saturday the 15h and 9am-3pm on Sunday the 16th. I bring all my Cat artwork, Notecards and Pet Portrait Commission Gift Certificates to these events. I’m looking forward to doing another Cat Show.
