Lori Rae’s Animated Animal Art at Daunis Fine Jewelry

Tuxedo II, Acrylic on Canvas 12x12 $175

Tuxedo II, Acrylic on Canvas 12x12 $175

Stepping into Daunis Fine Jewelry’s Showroom & unique workshop, is a little like visiting Santas Elves in the North Pole.  No their employees are not little people with pointy hats, but they do all their work in a space that has a distinctive timeless quality that surrounds it.  I say this with as much effection and enthusiasum as one can say in a blog. I absoutely adore the owners Pat and Bill. You see, on a beautiful spring evening about 4 years ago, my husband (bf at the time), our friend Jim, and I first discovered Daunis Fine Jewelry as we climbed three flights of stairs to enter a hidden gem (no pun intended) of a jewelry store in Portland.  Turns out, they’ve been working in that space for many years, and have only in recent years opened their showroom to locals.  Rich & I thought that Pat & Bill were the nicest, most knowlegable, and kindest shop owners and bookmarked their store for any future marriage plans.  To say the very least, we did buy simply goergous rings there that we LOVE and have formed a friendship with the owners.

This will be th second time my art will be previewed at Daunis Fine Jewelry.   I will be installing in the space tomorrow, June 30, and the show is available for viewing anytime

“Jewelry is an art form and it should be
in harmony with the wearer. I am influ-
enced by Maine’s fluctuating coastal
waters and the tranquility of lakes and
streams. A close look at my designs and
you can see the reflected light on waves
and swirling eddies. I design so this
movement of light and form will enhance
the person who wears my jewelry.”

Install for Biddeford Savings Bank is complete

Italian Villas

Italian Villas

Sorry, no pictures from the install, but that will entice you to come to the opening on Tuesday Night from 5pm-7pm. The show looks great, it’s a perfect amount of Italy mixed with some great paintings of New England, all displayed so they fit together like a hand in a glove. These works are vibrant & hold the space nicely, I suspect the bank will be thrilled to have them on their walls for the next three months.

Check out her show, located at 360 US Route 1, Scarborough, Maine anytime prior to September. We are hosting an opening for her on Tuesday Night from 5pm-7pm.

Painting Weather, is there such a thing?

lorilogo

Summer in Maine is normally my favorite time of year, well, ok – maybe just maybe Fall is a very close second.  With this said, June is normally low on my list of Weather expectations.  Normally we don’t see “real” summer weather until July and August up here in the North…it’s just the way it is.  So my herb garden that litterly drowned last year is heading in that direction again, so I’ve decided to ignore it for a bit & let nature take it’s course.  I think this is Painting Weather.  It’s sometimes hard to be in the studio on those perfect California-esq 75% dry sunny, summer days when the dog wants to take my husband and I to the beach- so this is a great time for me to over achieve with excess studio time.  Since I have been adding some nights to my time in the studio It has given me the opportunity to take my time in creating new works.   Since it’s been raining for weeks, and doesn’t seem to have an end in site, I figure this is time to start working on my larger commissions (the ones that have due dates later this summer)  I’m going to start priming my background for a 30×30 Fleur Di’ Li this week. I only have a 3 day work-week next week & plan to spend much of my free time in the studio.  Soon my 4 day work week begins for much of July and August, and I plan to have new works each week. Stay dry if you are in Maine!

A Corvette Coincidence?

56Corvette

So I was in my studio on a Saturday, and had randomly selected a photo of this car to Paint.  I was getting ready for Corvette Day a show that I was participating in Massachusetts along with my husband and Stella pup.  I have been working on diverse views of cars, and expanding my work to include views that I find interesting, like half the car or the tail end.  Even though the day was 1/2 rained out, and participation was scarce as compared to other years, the event did allow us entry into the Lars Anderson Transportation Museum.  It was very cool, there were concept  cars,  bikes, etc. and yes, a few corvettes.  One was very similiar if not exact to the color scheme and age of this above painting .  Because the display was facing forward, and it would have been illegal to jump the ropes to take a picture of the cars rare end, this is a front view.

Of course it is shown with the top down, and why not, you gotta love the convertable!  I was so close to doing the front view, and have the refe

rence still in my studio to prove it.  Funny how things happen.

Over on the write side of the blog I plan to keep a list of updated upcoming art shows on top of my bio.  Enjoy and thank you for reading my blog.

56 Corvette Red Molly

56 Corvette

Red Molly was created the day before a show, and I really like the way she turned out.  I’m trying to create some diversity in my car inventory, so I have been searching for unique views of cars.  Red Molly (my husband’s pick for the name) – shows a classic tan softtop and interior (one of MY favorite Corvette color combinations.)  The first generation Corvettes continue to be my personal picks, with the second being my second favorite.  This car painting will be available at the Open Studio art show this weekend in Portland.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

1959 Corvette Painting

59 Corvette

Ok, She didn’t have a name until just now, and the winner is “Irene” I have been naming  car paintings female names from their era for the past 3 years. Funny enough, both my parents helped with past car names, I’ll have to let my mom know that I finally named one after her.  This was a quick study, but I loved the view, a picture I found on the web of someone trying to sell this car – and the vantage point spoke to me, not to mention the color (which I’m not completely convinced is an original GM blue.)  I had a lot of fun painting this.  This painting will be available at SKG for the month of July.

Thanks for checking out my blog – See below for an earlier posting regarding this painting:

Blue 59 Corvette – partial view

Ok, I’m finally coming out of my shell and starting to paint more “interesting” backgrounds on my classic cars. It started with the mountainous background of Monique, the Peugot, then the last 69 Vette driving out of the cit.  Now  I have a Blue 59 Corvette that is a 9×12 double thick canvas on my easel & surprisingly I started it Wednesday (sorry no blog that day) and will put the finishing touches on it this weekend.  The view is of the left half of the car, which is sitting in a yard with a tree on it’s side and another tree showing through part of the windshield, naturally I have included a blue sky. It woke up fast according to my husband who viewed the underpainting before the real detailed work. I love it, so fun!  Saturday I will work on a 62 rear view (yes, I’m showing at Corvette Day on Sunday) – so I will now have 4 in my inventory for my new audience.  Thanks for reading my blog

New Painting this weekend

101_4618

OK, so I found this bright orange VW Bus sitting on the side of the road in Jerome, AZ last year during our winter vacation to Northern Arizona.  Jerome, BTW, is a “ghost town” that is filled with quirky commerce, fun places to eat, and lots of tourists.  It’s built on a hill, so to see the whole thing you need to zig zag from the bottom (where we parked) to the top – where the current hotel (forgot name) used to be a hospital for the insane.  In a creepy way it was sort of fun to sit in the bar & have a dessert surrounded by some of the original hospital equipment used long ago.  As far as the ghosts, I didn’t meet any, but they are said to be there.  My husband and I were both really loving Jerome…we found 3 vintage cars just walking the hills & ended up at a wine tasting from Sedona Wineries near the top of the hill.  As far as the orange van, it was crooked, a bit disproportionate, and was a wreck with paint splashed on the bumper, and paint looking warn.  I used this character in my new painting, which is on a  midnight blue background and it just popped. I love it and will send it in for a photoshoot soon and upload.
