Donald Verger is a Portland based award winning photographer. His photos capture moments of extraordinary light and a quiet ethereal beauty. Donald’s current show at The North Star Cafe not only highlights a recent trip to Ireland but also captivating scenes of Maine, featuring a select group of panoramas, one which boosts a reward. As a passionate traveler, Donald plans to follow his photographic instinct through the Tuscan Landscape of Italy this summer, where he is certain to bring a little bit of Italy back to Maine through his unique gift of capturing those special moments in time; the ones we are often too busy to appreciate. Donald is well known for the thousands of photographs he has taken of The Portland Head Light; from the earliest light and in temperatures below zero his devotion to capturing the shot is commendable. When Donald Photographs, he waits for time; light, mood, and subject all come together in perfect harmony. Donald serves as witness and chronicler to those times and saves them for all to enjoy later.
“I’ve often wished I’d bought Ansel Adams prints 50 years ago when they were affordable. I would have had a half century of stunning art in my house as well as a fabulous investment. I’m not making the same mistake again.” Daniel Cheever President Emeritus, Simmons College Art collector speaking about Donald Verger’s work
Donald is not only an accomplished photographer; he is also the Founder and President Emeritus of The Children’s Discovery Museum and Science Discovery in Acton, Massachusetts. www.discoverymuseums.org
Donald’s images have been featured in galleries around New England. For more information contact Donald at donaldverger@gmail.com or 207-766-1313

It’s that time again
For those of you who have been reading my blogs over the last year (or a bit short of) – I really have a passion for gardening. Even more than just gardening, gardening on a budget. I spent about a day and a half organizing perennials, raising a bed for organic veg and herbs, and of course weeding. I have already been out in the quiet of the early morning today to water. I am most excited about the raised bed, an old sandbox helps me out there.
My weekend was combined with gardening, painting and lots of learning about how to housetrain a puppy (4 weeks and 1 day counting.) If you think I am mommy crazy, you should see Daddy – I’ve never seen him so in love with a picture. We are watching Stella grow via email – we met her online at 2 weeks, yesterday was three – eating mush now – weaning – her eyes are open wider and she looks curious. We meet her at 6 weeks and take her home at 8. The breeder has been amazing at keeping in touch and giving us updates.
Now I can nurture my art, my garden and my pup. Life is good. I started a commission this weekend, and I really like the progress, I plan to finish it this week and will post it when I am done. I also have a show for my flowing female figures that I install on Wednesday this week.
Thanks for reading, Loving the sun.
Lori
Puppy Lovin’
Rich and I have decided to become parents to this little 3 or so pound of love! If she is even that big! We have yet to name her and will meet her for the first time on June 14th and take her home to live with us on June 28th. Most of you will know that we lost our last cat in December and the house has been very quiet, especially when Rich travels for work. As you can imagine, she will be an amazing inspiration for future art projects. We have put a hold on her today, so as long as she weens well and has a strong little immune system at 8 weeks, we will take her home.
Hardcore
In my new series of work I explored some pop-art tendencies with my red haired flowing female, she is Devine, she basks, she dances, she flows. I also did not forget about the male figure and I have yet to frame this one – but this is one of my favorite of the new work. I needed to do some of my own experimenting in between the pet portrait work which is starting back up again. I am also in a pet show at the end of the year and need a full body of work to show there. I have had two weeks off in the studio for shows and my other love, the travel biz, but I’m going back in and not coming out until the end of the summer. When I do, I will have Dog Mug Shots, more cats, and some other scenes I’ve been wanting to paint. I haven’t been on Ebay for a while because I am joining a Co-Op and going to focus my resources on that and future shows. I may Ebay again starting in the fall and winter, as I like it, but I am so busy this time of year.

Paradigm
Sorry for the hiccup in my blogs, parents came for mothers day weekend. So this is Paradigm, she is almost woven into the fabric of the painting, isn’t she? I love the energy and stance and she is absolutely one of my faves. I have her in a dristressed block wood Roma Frame, it’s silver, but distressed, so it looks a bit beaten up. She will be in my show for Sunday. I will try to resume posting the new work each day. Thanks for looking
Mystique
Ok, although I am married to somewhat of a wordsmith, I did come up with this title myself (with some clever help from the man on the others) – Mystique is a woman of mystery because if you look at her, she looks like a question mark in the form of a female flowing figure. She is my favorate and I am already working on larger version with some variations in color. I have been looking for some different work in a slightly different style lately and after many flawed copies – this was the one that I said “finally” – this of course has not been seen by anyone but Rich and I (maybe a few friends, they saw some but not all of the new work) – so I’m interested in seeing what the response will be. I have not abandonded the dogs/cats/cars or any of the other subject matter that I have worked on – I’m just changing gears for the moment and will be on to something else soon. Of course, I really like this series, so it’s likely to stick around. I am buidling a series of new work/new energy for shows this year. Thanks for looking
